ABOUT THE JOB
Aktyvus Photonics is a rapidly growing high-tech company developing advanced laser solutions for the defense sector. Our products are already being integrated into international projects, and our team consists of professionals in their fields – from laser engineering to optomechanics. We bring together people who want to create not just ordinary products, but technologies with a real mission.
THE ROLE: SENIOR NPI MECHANICAL ENGINEER
As a Senior NPI Mechanical Engineer at Aktyvus Photonics, you will take ownership of the mechanical industrialization of new products – bridging the gap between R&D design and stable, repeatable production.
You will work closely with R&D engineers, manufacturing process engineers, procurement, quality and production teams to ensure that newly developed products are ready to be manufactured efficiently, consistently and at the required quality level.
Your responsibility will begin before final design release and continue through pilot builds, production ramp-up and stabilization.
This is not a traditional mechanical design role. Your focus will be on turning complex engineering designs into robust manufacturing solutions – defining how products are built, controlled, documented and successfully introduced into production.

IN THIS POSITION, YOU’LL
- Introduce New Design to Production: Take responsibility for the mechanical introduction of new products from design release through pilot builds and into stable serial production.
- Build Manufacturing Structures: Convert engineering BOMs (EBOM) into manufacturing BOMs (MBOM), defining appropriate assembly structures and ensuring that manufacturing data accurately reflects how the product is built.
- Manage Product Configuration: Maintain controlled product configurations and ensure that production is always working with the correct released revisions of parts, assemblies and documentation.
- Drive Engineering Changes: Coordinate implementation of Engineering Change Orders (ECOs), evaluating their impact on BOMs, drawings, tooling, work instructions, inventory, work-in-progress and released products.
- Ensure Manufacturing Readiness: Identify and define the tooling, fixtures, jigs, gauges and equipment required for product assembly and manufacturing.
- Design Production Tooling: Design mechanical fixtures, assembly aids and other production tooling required for repeatable and efficient manufacturing.
- Create Production Documentation: Prepare, maintain and continuously improve SOPs, work instructions, assembly procedures and other manufacturing documentation.
- Lead Pilot Builds: Prepare and actively participate in pilot and first production builds, identify technical and manufacturing issues, document findings and drive corrective actions to closure.
- Support Production Ramp-Up: Provide hands-on engineering support during product launch and early production, resolving mechanical assembly, manufacturability and configuration-related issues.
- Provide DFM/DFA Feedback: Review R&D designs from a manufacturing perspective and provide structured Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly feedback before product release.
- Bridge R&D and Manufacturing: Act as the key mechanical engineering interface between the NPD/R&D team and Manufacturing/Process Engineering, ensuring clear technical communication and effective transfer of product knowledge.
- Drive Continuous Improvement: Use feedback from pilot builds and production to improve product robustness, assembly efficiency, documentation quality and manufacturing repeatability.
ABOUT YOU
- Background: Strong mechanical engineering background with hands-on experience in product industrialization, NPI, manufacturing engineering or transfer of complex mechanical products into production.
- NPI Experience: Experience introducing newly developed products into manufacturing and supporting them through pilot builds, ramp-up and production stabilization.
- BOM & Configuration Management: Good understanding of EBOM/MBOM structures, product revisions, configuration control and engineering change processes.
- Engineering Change Management: Practical experience working with ECOs, understanding how design changes affect manufacturing documentation, tooling, inventory and production.
- Mechanical Engineering: Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, technical drawings, tolerances and GD&T. You should be able to review and challenge R&D designs from a manufacturability and assembly perspective.
- CAD: Proficiency with SOLIDWORKS or a similar CAD system. You will use CAD primarily for design reviews, tooling and fixture design, manufacturability analysis and production-related modifications.
- DFM / DFA: Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing and Design for Assembly principles and the ability to translate them into practical engineering recommendations.
- Tooling & Fixtures: Experience designing or specifying fixtures, jigs, gauges, assembly aids or other production tooling.
- Production Documentation: Ability to create clear, practical and technically accurate SOPs, work instructions and assembly documentation.
- Hands-On Mindset: Comfortable working directly with technicians and operators during pilot builds, troubleshooting issues on the production floor and validating solutions physically.
- Problem Solving: Strong analytical and structured problem-solving skills with the ability to identify root causes and drive technical issues to closure.
- Ownership: Ability to independently assess manufacturing readiness, identify risks and take responsibility for resolving issues across multiple engineering functions.
- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively across R&D, Manufacturing, Quality, Procurement and Production teams while maintaining clear ownership of technical topics.
- Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English to support international projects and cross-functional engineering work.
NICE TO HAVE
- Experience with complex optomechanical or defense-related products.
- Experience working with PDM, ERP or similar data management systems.
- Experience with low-volume, high-complexity manufacturing environments.
- Experience introducing precision mechanical or optomechanical assemblies into production.
